Jme, Jamie Adenuga

BA 3D Digital Design, 2008

UK GRIME ARTIST AND PRODUCER

“My time at Greenwich helped develop my technical and creative skills which form the foundation of my business enterprises, including producing my own music, videos and clothing ranges.”

Jme, Jamie Adenuga, is a Tottenham-born UK grime artist, co-owner and CEO of the label Boy Better Know (BBK), along with his brother Joseph Adenuga, aka Skepta. Jme and Skepta formed Boy Better Know with Wiley in 2005 and have gone on to become not just grime’s biggest crew, but a genuine cultural force in the UK.
‘No label, no PR, no publisher…’, so goes Jme’s Twitter bio. He’s an independent artist with a strong set of values and a sharp sense of humour, both of which are reflected through his music. His lyrics reference Pokémon, veganism and the need to work hard amongst other things. In “Man Don’t Care”, released in 2015, he even mentions studying at university.

His third album Integrity was released in February 2015, reaching number 12 in the charts and being regarded as the grime album of the year. The album is considered instrumental in carrying the grime scene over into the commercial mainstream receiving a MOBO nomination for best album, iTunes Hip Hop Album of the Year, Banquet Records Album of the Year 2015 and much, much more.

Developing his career through setting up his own label, Jamie has kept complete control of his creative output never having to compromise to a record company executive. Integrity is not just the name of his widely acclaimed album but a principle he lives his life by.
BBK and its founders continue to grow in profile internationally, performing with Kanye West and working closely with Grammy award winning, Canadian artist, Drake.

Jamie credits his time at the University of Greenwich with helping him develop his technical and creative skills. This knowledge has provided a foundation for his creative enterprises which include producing his own music, videos, clothing range and other merchandise.

In 2019 JME released ‘Grime MC’, his first album in four years since ‘Integrity’, to critical acclaim.
