Greenwich Portraits shortlisted for Times Higher award

Greenwich Portraits, a communications campaign celebrating 27 outstanding alumni, has put the University of Greenwich on the shortlist for a prestigious Times Higher Education award.

The university’s Alumni & Development team is nominated for the Outstanding Marketing/Communications Team award at the Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards 2017.

The campaign is built around high quality portraits of the alumni taken by fine art photographer Diane Patrice. Greenwich Portraits was launched across digital and social media channels to coincide with the exhibition opening last May. It can be seen by the public at the university’s Stockwell Street building.

“We wanted to break down stereotypes of what success looks like, and create an immersive and interactive campaign which speaks to today’s digital natives. It met its objective to inspire not just alumni but students and staff as well.”

It became an instant success with thousands of students, staff, alumni and the public visiting the exhibition online and alerting their friends via social media.

“Greenwich Portraits ran with the hashtag #ProudtobeGre. We are proud of the achievements of our alumni and the role of the university in transforming lives.”

From eminent graduates such as equality campaigner Doreen Lawrence and Nobel laureate Sir Charles Kao, to the younger generation including top grime artist Jme (pictured) and human rights lawyer Shabina Begum, it is the diversity in talent and background which comes to the fore.

Sarah Cretch, Head of Alumni & Development says: “We wanted to break down stereotypes of what success looks like, and create an immersive and interactive campaign which speaks to today’s digital natives. It met its objective to inspire not just alumni but students and staff as well.”

Professor David Maguire, Vice-Chancellor, adds: “This recognition of excellence in running an imaginative, high quality campaign is a tribute to the staff and wider alumni community. Greenwich Portraits ran with the hashtag #ProudtobeGre. We are proud of the achievements of our alumni and the role of the university in transforming lives.”

The university has previously won nine THE awards including the prize for Outstanding International Collaboration awarded to its Natural Resources Institute in 2014.
