World Cup goes global for Greenwich alumni
This year’s World Cup in Russia is a truly global affair for the Greenwich alumni community.
The university is proud to have alumni from all 32 countries taking part in football’s most prestigious tournament.
They include over 5000 alumni from Mo Salah’s Egypt, mostly through the university’s partnership with Cairo-based MSA University – and nearly 4000 from Nigeria.
At the other end of the scale, only one alumnus in Panama had to suffer the 6-1 defeat by England. We also have one graduate in Uruguay.
In all, the university has 76,000 known alumni who come from outside the UK, representing 172 countries. This compares with approximately 155,000 from the UK (including Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland).
So far during the World Cup, we have received messages from fans of Peru, Nigeria, Mexico, Argentina and host nation Russia, to name but a few.
