Film-maker graduates to 2018 Alumni Award

Congratulations to BSc Hons Film and Television Production graduate Emily George, this year’s winner of the University of Greenwich Alumni Award.

Emily’s film The Whale Bowl (Lolita’s Story), which she wrote, produced and directed as part of her final year project at Greenwich, was shortlisted for a BAFTA Student Film Award. It was one of just 60 films selected from submissions made by students in 35 countries all over the world.

Emily received her award from Vice-Chancellor, Professor David Maguire, at the university’s Graduation Reception last week.

The Alumni Award recognises the outstanding achievements of University of Greenwich graduates. Previous winners include Baroness Doreen Lawrence, leading City lawyer Solomon Wifa, and fashion designer and entrepreneur, Holly Wang.

The Whale BowI aims to raise awareness about orcas in captivity through a unique combination of animation and archival footage that illuminates the plight of the orca, Lolita.

Emily graduated in 2017 with a First Class honours degree in Film and Television Production. She now works at Channel 5, alongside freelance work as a photographer and editor.
