VICE PRESIDENT OF LIVE MUSIC, AEG PRESENTS GOLDENVOICE

“To this day, I draw on what I learnt in my Events Management degree in my job as a live music promoter. Studying at the University of Greenwich has undoubtedly helped me get where I am in my career.”

Aimon is Vice President of Live Music at AEG Presents Goldenvoice, an LA-based sporting and music entertainment presenter, and one of the world’s biggest live music companies.

To say Simon is living the dream is an understatement. Being paid to travel the world and work with international stars including Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran is not only a job but a passion. Shawn Mendes, Tom Odell, London Grammar, Father John Misty and Craig David are a few more of his acts.

He also books acts for the Hyde Park British Summer Time festival, and works from London and LA. Is it non-stop partying? Well yes… and no.

“This is more than a job, it’s a major passion of mine – I’m very lucky and blessed in that respect,” he says. “No day is the same and I meet so many talented people.

“Promoting a show which starts from a phone call with an agent, to seeing 20,000 people watching their favourite act and going nuts is something really special.”

Simon, who hails from Orpington, Kent, has worked hard for his success. He joined AEG as an intern market researcher in 2007 and after a lot of late nights for no extra money, he worked his way up the ranks.

Over the years, he’s held positions in ticketing and touring before promotion to management roles in the live music division.

“If you’re passionate about something and have direction, it’s easy to work hard”, he says. “Seize every opportunity, throw yourself in the deep end, introduce yourself to influential people and learn from every mistake. Don’t expect anything to fall in your lap or for someone to help you out.”

Simon’s career has enriched his life in many ways. He’s travelled to some amazing places, met different types of people and honed a deep appreciation of music – everything from Carole King to Kendrick Lamar.

He loved his time at Greenwich, and his favourite memory is playing the Students’ Union with his own band, Moscow Drive.

“We sounded like a cross between The National, The Maccabees and Coldplay. Glad to hear that the Union is moving to a bigger place next year – would be great to bring some shows here!”
