“This particular photo is not just of me celebrating my PhD graduation, but it is a celebration of the very long journey I took to reach this very memorable moment.”

Memories of Greenwich

I initially visited the university as an exchange student from Egypt in 2011 and as soon as I graduated from my BSc and got an MSc scholarship, I didn’t think twice to return here. The decision to pursue my PhD was a difficult one but the opportunity to apply to Greenwich was what made it a lot easier. The support and opportunities to grow in my field and as a person were some of the greatest tools that the university could provide.

I cherish every single moment. Through University of Greenwich, the UK became my second home and within that, Medway will always be number one.

Life after Greenwich

Since completing my PhD I took on a temporary role as an Energy Manager at the University of Southampton before moving to the University of Glasgow as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. I am planning to further my career in academia by securing a permanent academic position.

For current students, I would say grab onto every opportunity and do not limit your learning to only what’s inside the classroom. Every single thing you take part in will contribute to your growth and get you one step closer to your dream job. For those about to graduate, do not underestimate anything you achieved during your time studying; every single experience counts. Learn from the negative experiences and be proud of the positive ones.
