Obtaining the right guidance through your time at university is vital to ensure you produce the best academic result and enjoy your time whilst studying. I would also consider mentoring students and offering up my time to signpost students to correct places for additional aid.”

Volunteering for University of Greenwich

I worked as an ambassador of my subject for the first two years of my studies which was a massive role as I was the first point of contact for students interested in studying sports science at the University of Greenwich. I explained why I had chosen the subject and why I chose to study at Greenwich. My speech influenced some students who attended our open days as they joined the university to study sports science and I even became friends with a few. I also worked at the gym at the university which was great to socialise with students or individuals that used the gym. Students were happy I worked there as I was able to pass on the knowledge I gained from my subject for them to use whilst they were exercising.

Now that I have graduated and experienced life as a university student there were things I wish I knew during my time at university. So, I felt it was important for me to become a volunteer to pass on knowledge and to guide current students [in the right direction] so they do not make the same mistakes I did. Obtaining the right guidance through your time at university is vital to ensure you produce the best academic result and enjoy your time whilst studying. I would also consider mentoring students and offering my time to signpost students to correct places for additional aid.

There are many ways for alumni to get involved with the University; e-mentoring via Ask Alumni, speaking at events or at an open day. Find out more here.

Joining the Alumni Community

My inspiration to come to University arose from my parents as they both attended the University of Greenwich and graduated in biomedical science. My father obtained a master’s degree and my mother obtained a bachelor’s degree. Seeing them both acquire their degrees at a young age influenced me to follow in their footsteps and study a subject of my choice to graduate and pursue as a career.

Since graduating I have been working in and around London as a locum administrator for multiple GP practices. This has allowed me to build on the knowledge I gained from university within sports science and also help develop my customer service skills, my character and my mentality. through work I’ve come across various characters in different settings which I quickly adapted to. My ability to adapt to different environments and other’s needs has in turn allowed me to produce great results at work.

This year (2020) I became the Treasurer of Greenwich (Labour Party), which is a massive role as I will behind campaigns of various Councillors within the Greenwich borough. I also take part in giving advice/ideas towards new or current ventures/situations for the local community.

I have also submitted my own Greenwich Snapshot!
