Dami Agunbiade

BSc Business, 2017

FORMER STUDENT AMBASSADOR AND DISABLED STUDENTS OFFICER

“I feel that Greenwich genuinely cares about its students, and offers unity and inclusivity to everyone who studies here.”

Dami is one of our most proactive students and was recently elected Disabled Students Officer by his peers.
Outgoing and fun, Dami has now clocked up more than 100 hours of volunteering. He attends Freshers’ Fairs, drums up support for student elections and lends a hand at most events. He recently chaperoned a group of new and existing students to a trampoline park in Essex, which certainly broke the ice.

As disabled students’ ambassador, Dami represented Greenwich at this year’s National Union of Students’ disabled conference in Manchester, tabling motions and taking part in debates.

Dami, who’s partially sighted himself, is a beacon of support to disabled students at Greenwich, and liaises with the Students’ Union on any problems.

He’s just led a campaign on ‘invisible disability’ at the university, spotlighting issues such as dyslexia, mental illness and dyspraxia. He says:

“Not many people realise that 92% of disability is invisible. I was so pleased to raise awareness of this fact so that people suffering felt less alone.

“I’ve personally found a lot of support at Greenwich. The Students’ Union team has helped me develop quite a bit, which has really boosted my confidence.

“I feel that Greenwich genuinely cares about its students, and offers unity and inclusivity to everyone who studies here.”

Dami, who’s in the final year of his business course, hopes to do a Masters in technology or social media when he leaves. He says his favourite thing about Greenwich is the diversity, with students from more than 176 different countries studying here.

As CEO of the Students’ Union, John Schless loves working with Dami and says:

“Dami is a true champion of the university. He represents us at public events, is doing well on his course, has made lots of friends and has joined many of our clubs and societies.

“I know that Dami is a safe pair of hands and will bring enthusiasm to anything he’s signed up for.

“When we have a student like Dami, we know we’ve done things right.”
