Course: BA Events Management, 2020

Job: Founder, Bake Well Being

“Be your own cheerleader throughout University. Believe in your abilities to achieve great things and if you have a good idea, especially one that you are passionate about, have faith in it, make others believe in it too and make it happen!”

Memories of Greenwich

The support and encouragement of the university’s Generator (formerly i3 centre) during my final year was invaluable. They offered me the opportunity to take part in the Enterprise Challenge 2020 during my final year of studies, a process that has helped me develop my social enterprise, Bake Well Being.

Through this experience I realised that, with support from the Generator workshops, I had created the plans for a social mission that had a place of great importance in this world. To remove the intimidation many feel towards traditional forms of mental health support, making it accessible and enjoyable while providing a creative release and the skills for an innovative form of self-help which supplies endless rewards and sense of achievement.

My snapshot shows the elation and pride I felt just after hosting my first virtual Bake Well Being Tea & Talk Workshop. This was run as a trial for my closest family and friends in May 2020 at the end of Mental Health Awareness Week.

Life after Greenwich

Since graduating from Greenwich I have been focusing on building the Bake Well Being networks and engagement through social media platforms, including a blog and YouTube channel where I provide baking inspiration and tutorials while encouraging people to think and talk about their mental health on a daily basis. This online content has been supported by the GSU Digital Tribe and has also gained interest from other Universities for which I am scheduled to host Virtual Student Bake-alongs.

To support myself financially, while I am renovating the Bake Well Being Van and studying for the mental health and coaching qualifications needed to launch my social enterprise, I am also working self-employed on a freelance basis doing a range of website/social media management and retail jobs.

My time at University and my placement year greatly developed my understanding of business and how to conduct myself in a professional manner, while also providing extensive opportunity to practice soft-skills like time management and prioritising tasks. I believe this is why I am now able to effectively work multiple jobs alongside establishing my online presence and start-up business.

Fuelled by the support, belief and encouragement I received from University I am now on the road to officially launching Bake Well Being in the Summer of 2021
