Brothers Danny and Nicky found a degree at Greenwich to be the best start to a career in education.
After graduation and teaching jobs, however, the pair’s coaching skills soon took them beyond the classroom. Together, they managed football clubs Concord Rangers and Braintree Town (taking them to their highest-ever finish in the National League) before the duo took the reins at Lincoln City in
May 2016.
They led Lincoln back into the Football League in their first season and as of the beginning of 2019 ‘The Imps’ are sitting top of League Two. This follows their magical run to the FA Cup Quarter-Final in the 2016/17 season and a first Wembley appearance as Lincoln won the EFL trophy in April 2018. The pair also guided City to the League Two playoff semi-final in May 2018.
For Danny, his love of teaching will always stem from his years at Greenwich:
“The degree gave me direction, and the skill set to be confident as a teacher. The course is structured so that each year you do a placement at a local school, and that exposure gave me the confidence to make the most of working with young people”.
The 2018/19 season saw further success for Danny and Nicky as Lincoln City won promotion to League One as division champions.
In September 2019, Danny and Nicky were appointed as the management team of Championship club Huddersfield Town. Huddersfield were struggling following relegation from the Premier League the previous season but Danny and Nicky have steadied the ship, with the club sitting 18th in the division at the pause in English football in March 2020. Such was their immediate success that Danny won the EFL Championship Manager of the Month award in October 2019.
Danny and Nicky left Huddersfield Town in July 2020 having led the team to 18th in the Championship before the end of the 2019/20 season.
Danny and Nicky were then appointed as the management team of League One club Portsmouth FC between 2021-2023.
