Louise Vincer

BSc Chemistry, 2003 | PhD Chemistry, 2007

MARKETING MANAGER NORTHERN EUROPE, GSK

“It taught me not only the academic theory but also how to build relationships with people, manage sponsors and to be confident in my abilities. It opened doors and helped me take chances when I wasn’t always sure I would be able to succeed.”

Louise graduated with first class honours from her BSc and was named ‘PhD Student of the Year’ when she completed her studies – not bad for a student who says she had not considered doing a doctorate until her supervisor brought it up.

After Louise began a post-doctoral research position in partnership with GSK, it was only a matter of time before the company appointed her as a senior scientist on its biggest oral health brands.

Building on her achievements as a scientist, GSK introduced her expertise in research and development to their marketing division, giving Louise responsibility for marketing oral healthcare brands in emerging markets and launching innovations at a global level.

She says the courage to change sectors at GSK came from the positive experience of taking a chance on a PhD, an experience that changed her outlook for the better: “It taught me not only the academic theory but also how to build relationships with people, manage sponsors and to be confident in my abilities. It opened doors and helped me take chances when I wasn’t always sure I would be able to succeed.”
