“I am a preacher of equality; I value diversity and embrace inclusion, so Greenwich has been fantastic.”
Pépèr came to Greenwich as a mature student and has demonstrated clear leadership skills and commitment to student life, as well as a firm belief in equality and creating opportunities for everyone.
On his first day he became the class rep, and he is currently the Students’ Union Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Students Officer. He set up the BAME Network in September 2016 starting with only six committee members; there are now over 100 students involved. He is also Mathematics Society Students’ Union Representative and is actively involved in student politics at a national level through his role as National Union of Students, Black Students Committee Member (Open Place).
He studied BSc Mathematics, graduating in 2018. As a parent of two young children, he is interested in pursuing a teaching career as there is a lack of STEM teachers in schools.
Pépèr came to the UK over a decade ago from Nigeria and is the 12th child from a family of 22 brothers and sisters. With an interest in politics, he encouraged his dad to become Local Government Chair back in Nigeria. Pépèr is active in local politics and interested in becoming a councillor for his borough.
Pépèr is enthusiastic and wants to drive positive change. He knows that while education is important, being part of broader university life is essential: “I am a preacher of equality; I value diversity and embrace inclusion, so Greenwich has been fantastic.”
